Miss Cicely Tyson, Queen Mother

Like a mass multitude of others, I too pause to pay homage, and deep respect to the life, and legacy of Miss Cicely Tyson. Just Tuesday, January 26, her memoir “BLESSED ASSURANCE” was released. It seems so ironic that she left our world two days later. She was inimitable, iconic, and truly a gift to us.
“Mamma Cicely”, graced us for decades with stunning and starring roles in Sounder, Roots, Diary of A Mad Black Woman, A Trip to Bountiful, to name a few. She was always an inspiration to behold. Her mark will be left on generations, here and now, as well as those yet unborn. She took us beyond the roles of Mammy, Maids, Cooks, and gave us true drama and theater. Her passing leaves a void. We are grateful for the life she has lived and the legacy she has left. Compromise was not an option for her. It was important that she brought to the camera, or the stage, the best representation of us, for us, and others. Her success opened many doors for others. She was ready, and willing, to be a bridge builder so that others could climb over into their destinies. We owe a great debt of gratitude to those who have gone on before us, and paved the way. Indeed, we stand upon their shoulders. Thank you, Mam.
Goodnight Miss Cicely Tyson. You were an inspiration to multitudes, and especially to people of color everywhere. Rest in Power, and in Peace. “May flights of Angels, sing thee to thy rest.” Well done.
